Drivers education classes, including the classroom instruction and drive time, will be offered at St. Ansgar in July and January.
In order to take the Drivers Education course, you must have your permit before the session starts. A few things have changed due to the coronavirus pandemic we are all facing at this time. The classroom instruction part of the Driver’s Education class will be done entirely online. I have been in contact with a company that has developed a software program that complies with the Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa Department of Transportation requirements for online education. The nice thing about this program is that students can complete this program at any time. There is no specific date or time when we will all need to be together. The on-line course still needs to be connected with a local Driver’s Education teacher. For example, parents can’t sign up their child to do this program without being linked to a local driver’s education teacher. Driving will be conducted in the same manner as before. Two students are always in the car along with myself. I will be taking extra precautions such as wiping down the driver’s seat, the various controls, and any other needed items before another student drives. If one of the students feels a mask necessary, everyone in the car will wear one. Cost for drivers ed will be $315 which will be paid to the school. There will also be an additional fee of $30 when you register for the online classroom course. I will be having a Zoom meeting with anyone who is interested in taking Drivers Education before the session starts. During this meeting, I will try to answer any questions and explain how the driving schedule will work. Thank you for your understanding. This is a new way of delivering the course instruction and this class will be new to everyone.
